USTUTT

The “Materialprüfungsanstalt Universität Stuttgart” (MPA) is an independent research organisation and the central material testing institute of the University of Stuttgart. It deals with scientific and application oriented research projects, helps in developing new products, issues expertise and carries out tests within the scope of quality assurance. The significance of these tasks requires intensive national and international cooperation especially in view of decision counselling for state and federation administration bodies.

The MPA is recognized as a testing, surveillance and certification body of controlled and uncontrolled constructions. Consequently, its highly competent experts can contribute to the compilation of technical guidelines and standards world-wide. Its staff members are represented in expert committees and project groups of the Deutschen Institut für Bau¬technik, Berlin (DIBt) (German institute for civil engineering, Berlin (DIBt)) and cooperate in standardizing committees of the German Standardization Association (DIN and VDI), as well as in expert committees and working groups (WTA, GFKORR, DAfStB, COST, DGZfP etc).

The MPA consults clients in solving technical problems such as building inspection for approval of new materials and structures. It deals with scientific and application-oriented research projects, helps in developing new products, issues expertise and carries out tests within the scope of quality assurance. For this the latest test equipment and methods together with supercomputers are implemented and a large variety of test facilities (e.g. for testing large scale specimen with loads up to 15MN) are available.
